TO: Parents of Students entering the 7th and 12th grades
FROM: Mr. Tanner, Superintendent
SUBJECT: New Shot Requirements for 7th and 12th Grade Students
DATE: June 30, 2014
I wish to remind parents of students that will be entering 7th and 12th grade for the 2014-2015 school- year that there are immunization requirements that need to be met before the next school year begins. These requirements include two new shots that were not previously required when your children entered school. They are:
7th Graders must show proof of a booster dose of Tdap vaccine and a dose of MCV4 (meningitis) vaccine.
12th Graders also must show proof of a single dose of Tdap, plus a booster dose of MCV4 (meningitis) if the first dose of MCV4 was given before the child’s 16th birthday. If the first dose was given after the 16th birthday, then a booster dose is not required.
I encourage you to have your child’s shot record reviewed by your doctor or the local health department to make sure that your child is ready for school. If they are missing one or both shots, they can get them now to avoid the last minute rush. Again, these shot requirements are for students who are entering the 7th and 12th grade next year.
Your child will not be able to attend school without proof of these immunizations. Please provide a shot record to your child’s school as soon as possible prior to the start of the school year.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Kenneth C. Tanner, Superintendent
